Chamaecyparis formosensis Matsum are ancient tall trees native to the mountains of Taiwan, they are also also referred to as Hong Kuai or Formosan Cypress. Hinoki means “fire tree”  which is one of the “five sacred trees of Kiso”. The essential oil comes from the steam distillation process. This insect resistant wood was traditionally used in erecting temples and palaces. Hong Kuai in Chinese means “the respected trees for the temple-building society.” This naturally occurring species has many many values. It is used as an antiseptic and esteemed for easing respiratory ailments when added into the atmosphere for purifying the air. Hinoki Wood is especially valuable to ease the mind during meditation with it’s high sesquiterpene content that is known to penetrate the blood-brain barrier, reaching the emotional centers of the brain.

This rather rare, mostly unknown Wood adds a bit of intrigue to a parfum potion. When used sparingly an intense essence will intermingle and add intrigue in a botanical blend.
