Originally from North Smithfield, Rhode Island, Doreen DeSerres took an interest in plants and their healing properties at an early age. In 1985 she moved to Sanibel Island in Central Florida where she created and ran Sensations, a fashion boutique. In 1988 she opened The Downtown Bookshoppe in Ft. Myers, Fl. where, shortly after, she began Nature's Spirit, an herb and aromatherapy product line for holistic health, comprised solely of wild-crafted and/or organic ingredients and non-animal, renewable resources. In 1993 she closed the bookshop and moved Nature's Spirit to Cocoa, Florida on the east coast. During this time, she also attained her certification as a Hatha Yoga instructor from Yogi Hari's ashram in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Today, in accordance with her philosophies of body, mind and spirit, she continues to create new additions to the product line and enjoys dance, yoga, organic and native butterfly gardening, and is mother to daughters Julia and Andrea Rose.
In addition to more that 30 years of self guided education, Doreen has completed the aromatherapy certification course offered by the Atlantic Institute of Aromatherapy. She has lectured on aromatherapy to nurses and psychiatrists on the use of aromatherapy in their practice, and been featured speaker at holistic health and metaphysical fairs as well as hosted a one year radio show on real aromatherapy, simulcast in Providence, RI and Phoenix, AZ. In addition to offering a wide variety of aromatherapy workshops in her store, she currently teaches at massage schools, ashrams, and cosmetology and community colleges. Besides being found in the homes of many long-standing individual customers all over the world, her products are currently used in schools, dentists offices, beauty salons, by Chinese medical doctors, and have even been used to massage the NASA shuttle astronauts in preparation for space flight.
